Because it's not Monday yet...

STOP 1: JANE

A popular brunch destination, Jane often gets overlooked when considering a meal later in the day. But, if you want a quiet, leisurely dining experience without the commotion that comes with complimentary mimosas, dinner is the time to go. Serving solid, straightforward American cuisine in a spacious and comfortable setting, Jane is a perfect spot for a casual night out.

Sunday night is "Frites Night," when the kitchen offers three specials served with crispy rosemary fries. There's a "big pot of mussels" and an Arctic char, but if you're a meat eater, you should definitely order the steak. Normally $29, on Sundays this generous cut of juicy flat iron is only $23, and while you won't get the "steakiest" steak flavor you've ever tasted, it is tender, cooked to temperature and 100% satisfying. With six bottles of red under $50, including a Malbec and an Argentinian Cabernet, a steak supper at Jane is a surprisingly affordable dinner out.

STOP 2: PEGU CLUB

"I've already left, Elaine. I'm in Burma."

If only Pegu Club had opened a decade earlier, J. Peterman may never have uttered those fateful words and Elaine's "Urban Sombrero" fiasco might have been averted. In the midst of his nervous breakdown, Mr. Peterman could have remained stateside, opting instead for a few first-rate drinks at this elegant lounge, named after a late 19th century club for British Colonial Officers in the exotic locale to which Mr.Peterman ultimately absconded ("You most likely know it as Myanmar").

Pegu Club

With its plush chairs and ample space, Pegu Club is a sanctuary from life's stresses, particularly on Sunday evenings, when the Pegu Club All Stars complement the cocktails with three hours of jazz from the 30's and 40's. The informal quartet of rotating musicians is led by guitarist Glenn Crytzer, an ever-present player in the New York Jazz scene, directing ensembles of all sizes and occasionally sitting in on a few others. This weekly soirée is a fantastic opportunity to hear arrangements of swing era tunes played by some of the city's best jazz musicians.
