This itinerary is for freelancers, service industry workers, artists, out-of-towners and otherwise lucky bastards who can skip work on a Friday morning.

Before loading up on pounds of fish for pennies on the dollar, hit the following spots to prepare a killer picnic for your Friday lunch.

STOP 1: PETER PAN DONUTS

Peter Pan Donuts and Pastry Shop has been serving the residents of Greenpoint, Brooklyn, since the 1950's. Over the years, Peter Pan's interior decor has remained largely unaltered, even as the neighbor-hood transformed from Polish enclave to hipster haven. These days, the winding counter at Peter Pan accommodates both the remaining long time residents, as well as younger transplants who like their coffee served with a little room for nostalgia.

Peter Pan's donuts are some of the city's best, and at $1.10 each, you don't need a lot of dough to sample the goods. If you like the cake variety, try the sour cream and the chocolate coconut. If yeast is your thing, order a few jelly, white cream and chocolate frosted.

Round out your order with bagels and a container of cream cheese and you're ready for your next stop!

STOP 2: GRADY'S COLD BREW

UPDATE: Grady's is now located down the street at The Lot Radio. Read about it here.

You can't get much better than Grady's for a cold cup of coffee. On weekday mornings, from 8:00am-12:00pm, Grady's Cold Brew rolls out a coffee cart in front of the factory headquarters, serving their "New Orleans-style iced coffee concentrate." Made with freshly ground coffee from New York's own Porto Rico Importing Co., and infused with ground chicory and other spices, the cold brew is strong, incredibly smooth, and at this location, available at a discount. Get some and head up the street to ACME.

STOP 3: ACME SMOKED FISH

Good luck going to the ACME Smoked Fish Factory and not leaving with enough smoked seafood to open up your own branch of Zabar's. That's because, in addition to supplying fish to restaurants and markets all over the city, Zabar's included, ACME sells its entire product line to the general public at wholesale prices every Friday from 8:00am-1:00pm. During this time, you can shop for whole smoked trout and whiting, jarred varieties of herring, packaged bluefish, sable, mackerel, salmon jerky, and tons of fish salads and spreads, all available at a fraction of the normal retail price. Be sure to also partake in the generous free samples of freshly smoked salmon, including flavors like pastrami spiced and Chicago style with brown sugar, which can be bought for well under $20 a pound!

STOP 4: BROUWERIJ LANE

Should you want to have an adult beverage with your feast, make a stop at Brouwerij Lane, an excellent craft beer store with a tasting bar, hundreds of bottles, and 18 taps serving a diverse selection of brews in both glass and growler. Pick up a kolsh, pilsner or saison to pair with your smoked salmon.

STOP 5: TRANSMITTER PARK

Enjoy your feast at Transmitter Park, a small patch of lawn tucked away in Greenpoint's industrial landscape along the East River. Formerly a ferry slip and site of the WNYC radio transmission towers, the park has outstanding views of Manhattan and is a perfect spot to ignore life's responsibilities.
