7 Solid New York City Coffee Shops With Patios

If sipping on a cold brew instead of a craft brew is more your speed, check out these 7 spots with great coffee and private outdoor seating.

SATURDAYS

In addition to sleds for gnar-shredding city dwellers, this Soho surf shop sells its own brand of men's apparel and accessories. The small espresso bar up front serves a store blend of La Colombe coffee, which can be enjoyed on a serene private wood deck out back for a pre-tidal push pick-me-up.

Nearby: Hit Osteria Morini for some excellent northern Italian fare served in a casual setting. If you go after 9:00 PM on Monday, all pastas are just $10 and glasses of Lambrusco are $7. After dinner, stop by Baby Grand, a diminutive karaoke bar with a small stage in the back. Both places are featured in this Dayfarer itinerary.

MANNY'S

Opening in 2014, Manny's has quickly become a neighborhood staple in a storefront that saw countless businesses come and go for almost a decade.

Manny's serves coffee from Brooklyn Roasting Company and pastry from the folks at Dough Donuts, in addition to some serviceable salads, sandwiches and other savory fare, all of which can be enjoyed at a table in the backyard.

Nearby: For a full meal, check out L'Antagoniste, a high-end restaurant around the corner by the owner of Soho's (now closed) Le Philosophe. The kitchen serves delicious, but pricey, French classics. Just two blocks south, you'll find Casablanca Cocktail Lounge, a cash-only bar in an historic location that has shared the same name since the 40's. On the weekends, the space turns into Bed Stuy's best dance club, with DJ's spinning great sets of hip-hop, funk and soul.

MAMA'S BACKYARD CAFE

Next door to Corona's famed Italian deli and specialty store, Leo's Latticini (Mama's), Mama's Backyard Cafe offers a large selection of Italian sweets to go with a well-made cappuccino or espresso. Take your treats to the spacious backyard with plenty of wrought iron furniture, a fountain and a mural of an Italian countryside behind a statue of St. Francis.

TOM'S

Known primarily for its philanthropic approach to footwear, Tom's brings its humanitarian mission to the streets of Soho with its sole "Community Outpost" in New York. The store sells shoes, sunglasses and other apparel, in addition to its own brand of single origin coffee, the proceeds of which provide clean water to the communities where the coffee is harvested. Grab a cup at the cafe and walk through the boutique to find a tented patio reminiscent of that glampsite you claim to be too rugged for, but secretly covet.

Nearby: Grab a gourmet hot dog and craft beer at Daniel Boulud's DBGB for just $10. Here's how.

THINK COFFEE

Located in the lobby of the LGBT center in Greenwich Village, this location of the socially conscious coffee brand, Think, serves cups brewed from both a proprietary blend, as well as several single source coffees.

Customers can carry their cups outside to the sizable patio outfitted with modern furniture and a string light canopy.

Nearby: Swing by the Rubin Museum of Art, which celebrates the art and culture of the "Himalayas, India and neighboring regions." Grab dinner at Coppelia, an elegant Latin-American diner with great food and cocktails. Read about both here.

GREECOLOGIES

Greecologies is a sleek space with gleaming white surfaces and high ceilings, serving savory and sweet Greek delicacies. This spot specializes in two types of house-made Greek yogurt (strained and unstrained), which serve as a base for top-notch topping combos. Pair the superb food with a cup of "Butter Coffee," a supremely decadent drink made with an Intelligentsia Coffee blend and cultured grass fed butter.

Head out back to the quiet patio and post up for a few.

Nearby: Just a few blocks north, you'll find Botanica, a "dependable dive for anyone looking for cheap drinks and good cheer." Read more here

INTELLIGENTSIA COFFEE

The inaugural New York location of Chicago import Intelligentsia Coffee can be found inside the lobby of Chelsea's High Line Hotel. Serving some of the very best coffee in the city, this small counter also provides prepared salads and sandwiches, in addition to baked goods from Bien Cuit and Mah Ze Dahr bakery.

There's scant seating inside, so head outdoors to the courtyard just past the lobby. With the magnificent red-brick backdrop of a 19th century Gothic building (formerly a seminary, but now a high-end hotel), this spectacular setting is unparalleled for sipping coffee in the city.

Nearby: Walk over to Bathtub Gin, a speakeasy serving well-made cocktails where, on Sunday and Tuesday evenings, guests are treated to a complimentary burlesque show from the ladies of Wassabasco. Full review here.
